The Painted
Futuras are not painted in the classic sense of brushing or spray
painting. Instead, they are printed on a highly specialized UV
printer that uses ink jets to apply a heavy coat of an industrial
grade ink that dries and hardens immediately upon exposure to
a UV light source.
After the product is printed and cured, we apply a coat of matte
or semi-gloss acrylic to further protect the painted surface.
The UV-cured ink has a similar hardness to that of automotive
paint but the acrylic coating provides an extra measure of protection
to insure that the color and ink will last for a very long time
without discoloring or rubbing off.
The unique advantage of this highly specialized printer is that
it can reproduce any color, shape or pattern on the surface of
the Futura. This gives us a tremendous opportunity to provide
our customers with a wide variety of colors and patterns to chose
from.
Each colored Futura is custom made and customers can select
from:
1) A wide variety of colors and patterns
2) Matte or semi-gloss finish
3) Black or translucent no-slip rubber pads
There is no additional charge for these final touches to personalize
the product to their liking.
Other graphic processes would have resulted in a much higher cost.
Examples are Air Brushing which would have raised the retail price
to $99.00 per unit. Hand painting with automotive grade paint
would have also raised the price to $99.00 and could only have
produced solid colors.
The one limitation with our UV printing process is that the ink
jets spray in a downward direction only, leaving the ¼"
side walls of the Futura with just an overspray from the ink jet
application. To overcome this and give the Futura a finished look,
we hand-paint the outside edges with an air brush applicator using
automotive grade paint to provide the best finish and protection.
The inside edges on the underside of the Futura are not touched-up
in the same manner.
Because the Futuras are custom-painted for each individual, LapWorks
is giving its customers a two-week window to inspect the product
and return it for a full refund if it isn't to their liking. The
product has to be returned in pristine condition in its original
ziplock polybag and printed insert card to qualify for a refund.
