Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., April 22, 2002---LapWorks Inc., producers of accessory products for notebooks, Palm and other mobile computing devices, today announced a new version of its portable lap desk for mobile computer users. Laptop Desk™ Version 2.0 builds on the original Laptop Desk™ as a portable lap desk for mobile computer users, but also serves as a desktop stand for notebooks with multi-position screen heights and adjustable support arm.
The Laptop Desk™ v2.0 is ideally suited for the legal profession since a recent survey appearing in AmLaw Tech, a supplement to The American Lawyer magazine showed that a growing number (48 percent) of attorneys prefer notebook computers to desktop PC's.
In addition, a recent study conducted on the product by California Polytechnic University showed the Laptop Desk™ v2.0 reduces heat build-up in notebooks by 15 to 20 percent, translating to an extended computer life. The design of the Laptop Desk™ v2.0 allows cool air to pass through ventilation channels under the laptop allowing hot air to escape. "This passive cooling system reduces notebook overheating," said Professor William Hauser who headed up the study at the University. "The Laptop Desk™ version 2.0 Increases notebook component life by reducing component temperature increase over the ambient temperature."
The designed-in cooling system also shields users from "hot leg" by providing insulation from heat generated by laptops, which can rise to 140 degrees after extended periods of use.
The Laptop Desk™ v2.0 features a positionable support arm that lets the user select from five ergonomically comfortable typing angles. Positioning the keyboard at an incline has been shown to diminish shoulder and back strain. When fully extended, the support arm raises the computer screen viewing height 3-1/2 inches closer to eye level greatly reducing neck strain.
Weighing only 1-pound, 6-ounces, the Laptop Desk™ v2.0 is designed for travel with a thin profile of only 5/8" thick allowing the unit to fit into any computer bag. When folded and stored next to the notebook, the Laptop Desk™ v2.0 evenly absorbs impact to greatly reduce the possibility of damage to the computer.
Manufactured from polycarbonate plastic, the Laptop Desk™ v2.0 is extremely durable and over molded with no-slip rubber surfaces. These no-slip surfaces grip the notebook to the desktop or the users lap, preventing slippage. All materials are odorless, UV stabilized and will not separate. As a result all Laptop Desk™ products carry a lifetime warranty.
The Laptop Desk™ v2.0 is available in a translucent dark smoke color with black no-slip rubber and retails for $24.95. The unit can be purchased from TigerDirect.com or directly from the company's website at www.lapworks.net.
About The Laptop Desk Original
Launched in June of 2001, the Laptop Desk™ Original was
designed solely as a portable lap desk and targeted to mobile
users of notebook computers. The need for the Laptop Desk™
as a portable desk platform derived from industry research conducted
by IDC and GartnerGroup that estimated U.S. corporations would
spend more than $1 billion over the next several years to repair
or replace damaged notebook computers at an estimated cost of
$1,400 each. The leading cause of this damage occurred when the
computer was dropped from the users lap, which not only resulted
in financial and equipment losses, but also losses in productivity
and opportunity. In addition, GartnerGroup research estimated
that one-third of all employees would work from a mobile location
by 2004, creating the need for a lightweight, portable full-sized
laptop work surface. The Laptop Desk™ Original is still
available for sale at the LapWorks, Inc. website www.lapworks.net for $19.95.
